UPDATE ON MENINGITIS OUTBREAK
Cumberland Medical Center has offered treatment and screening to all patients presenting to the Emergency Department in accordance with the current Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines at the time of their visit. However, updates from the Centers for Disease Control continue to come in as new information is gathered related to the meningitis outbreak.
Cumberland Medical Center staff and physicians are monitoring the CDC website for updates, and are contacting patients who may need follow-up screening or treatment based on the updated guidelines. We also have a Physician specializing in Infectious Disease Medicine on our consulting staff. He is being consulted on all cases requiring testing and treatment.
We encourage patients who may be concerned about this outbreak to review information available at the Centers for Disease Control website CLICK HERE.
If you have been notified by your healthcare provider that you received an injection that may have put you at risk, please present to the Emergency Department at Cumberland Medical Center for evaluation.
CMC will continue to meet the healthcare needs of all patients who present to our emergency department. Patients with urgent or emergent conditions are encouraged to present to the Emergency Department at any time. Arrangements have been made to have additional qualified physicians and staff available from the hours of 1pm to 8pm daily to accommodate patient flow in the ED related to the increased number of Lumbar Puncture Procedures stemming from the outbreak.
