Cumberland Medical Center's Surgery Department consists of six major operating rooms, one Cystoscopy Room utilized primarily for Urologic procedures, and a minor operating room utilized for outpatient procedures requiring a local anesthetic only. Four major operating rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art 1080p High Definition Endoscopic Video equipment, LED surgical lighting, and information routing. Surgical interventions are performed on an inpatient and outpatient basis with the majority of patients admitted through the Same Day Surgery Unit.
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit consists of 9 beds, including an isolation room. The specially trained, all RN staff provides Phase I recovery care to patients who have received anesthesia, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care.
High-definition Operating RoomsCumberland Medical Center "i-Suite Operating Rooms" are fully integrated, high-definition operating rooms. The i-Suite provides a new level of medical care while allowing the medical center to increase the productivity of our staff, reduce overall operative costs and most importantly improve procedural efficiency which can boost patient outcomes.
The i-Suite Operating Room features the latest in operating room technologies for enhancing the quality and efficiency of surgical procedures: high-definition imaging and visualization, operating room integration, state of the art LED surgical lighting, and ceiling mounted equipment.
Operating room integration in the i-Suite OR is made possible through the SwitchPoint Infinity systems. The SwitchPoint Infinity system integrates the high definition video camera, PACS medical imaging system, Sidne Suite, image guided surgery, and other systems together. The entire room set up can be saved for later recall using OR Presets to maximize efficiency. The iSuite can be reconfigured from a knee arthroscopy to a laparoscopic cholecystectomy rapidly. The Sidne Suite is a central control system that connects with all compatible critical devices, such as endoscopic equipment. Sidne allows users to control those devices through one central touch screen.
Cumberland Medical Center is the first healthcare facility in the state of Tennessee to implement the Stryker fully-integrated surgical suites with 1080p HD video. The i-Suite Operating Rooms will serve as the centerpiece for CMC’s technological advancement for both its patients and its staff.
Advanced State-of-the-Art Treatment of Kidney StonesCumberland Medical Center Surgery department offers state-of-the-Art treatment of kidney stones using the Karl Storz Modulith® SLX-F2 Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) Unit.
Kidney stones are crystalline structures which form in the urinary tract from excretion of excess minerals within the body. Kidney stones vary in size, shape, and composition. Approximately 10% of people in the United States will have a kidney stone at some point during their lives. Men are affected more often than women. Symptoms vary depending on the size and location of the stone. Stones that are too large to pass may completely or partially obstruct the urinary tract causing a sudden onset of sharp pain. Other symptoms of stones may be frequent urination, blood in the urine, burning sensation during urination, and possible infection.
ESWL is a non-invasive procedure that directs shockwaves into the body causing fragmentation of a kidney stone making the pieces of the stone small enough to pass naturally through the urinary system. The duration of the procedure is approximately one hour, does not require an incision, and most often performed on an out-patient basis. Various methods of anesthesia are used to ensure patient comfort during the procedure. The Modulith® is the most advanced lithotripsy unit available with fewer than 250 installed throughout the country.
