The Pathology and Cytology department is staffed by a highly motivated team who stand ready to assist the physician in the field of anatomic pathology. The staff is comprised of histotechnologists, cytotechnologists, histotechnologist assistants, and various clerical staff. The Pathology department is overseen by the Medical Director and the Pathologist.

The Pathology department is responsible for preparing and processing all tissue specimens and PAP smears sent to Cumberland Medical Center. This includes specimens collected within the hospital, as well as specimens sent from doctor’s offices. Over 5,000 surgical cases are processed annually, making the number of tissue blocks over 9,000. Cytology processes more than 2,700 PAP smears annually, using the SurePath Liquid Based method for Pap smear testing.

The Pathology/Cytology department is open Monday through Friday, 6:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.
