CMC SPONSORS FREE MAMMOGRAPHY SCREENINGS

Cumberland Medical Center in cooperative efforts with the Susan G. Komen Foundation is offering four (4) mammography screening events to the women of this area during 2010.

On May 15th, the first “Free Mammography Screening Day” was held at the CMC Outpatient Imaging Center from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with 23 mammograms being done by mammo techs Jewel Day and Ann Lewis. In order to qualify for the free screening mammogram, women had to meet five criteria to be eligible:

1. No prior history of breast-related disease including breast cancer
2. Must be 40 years of age or older
3. No current problems with breast
4. No mammogram in the last two years
5. Uninsured

Appointments were made for each mammogram, and women were greeted with a large pink breast cancer awareness bow on the side of the building courtesy of CMC’s Engineering Department and its design team: Willie Stone, Bobby Roland, Conrad Welch, and Pam Kenner. Patients were also treated to refreshments of coffee, doughnuts, and bagels by CMC’s Food Services Department. Information about breast health and breast cancer was made available in the lobby of the Outpatient Imaging Center for those women with questions.

A special thanks to Trish Vaughn, Villa Edwards, Cathy Parsons, Sherry Lawson, Lisa Hild, Sharon Crockett, Naiad Kuhlman, June Levora, Mary McClintic, Shirley Seifert, Brandi Denton, Jennifer Sisco, and Mary Beth Putnam who all worked CMC’s first free Mammography Screening Day and contributed to making it such a success. The remaining three mammography screening days included in the grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation are planned for July, October, and December.
