Cumberland Medical Center Keeping You “In The Know”

At Cumberland Medical Center, we are dedicated to keeping our community informed of all current billing regulations; especially Medicare billing practices. When patients arrive at our facility for same day surgery or are admitted to a nursing unit for “observation” status, Medicare does NOT reimburse or cover the cost of medications taken orally.

What can you do to keep your costs down? First, inquire of your admission status. Are you a regular hospital admission or an observation patient? Many patients believe they are a “regular” admission because of location. This is a misconception. Every bed at Cumberland Medical Center has the capability of functioning as an observation bed or a regular admit bed.

Some observation / same day surgery patients may be able to take medications from home or alter dosage schedule until after they are discharged. The best solution is to speak with your physician PRIOR to your hospitalization to discuss options. If this is not possible, remember to ask medical personnel at our facility for assistance.

Last, remember WHY your medications are more expensive at the hospital than medications purchased over the counter. Every single medication is dispensed by a pharmacist, checked thoroughly for drug interactions, delivered to your nursing unit and administered by a licensed professional. Much care is taken with every medication and treatment you receive at Cumberland Medical Center. Your health matters to us.

We are your local healthcare provider and we strive to keep you “in the know.”
