CUMBERLAND MEDICAL CENTER DONATES CHARITY CARE TO COMMUNITY DURING 2006 - 2007

Cumberland Medical Center generated an economic impact of over $1,385,654.00 to the community during its past fiscal year which ended June 30, 2007, according to figures released in its community benefits report.

The hospital’s community benefits’ report is completed on an annual basis and is submitted to the Tennessee Hospital Association and is utilized in-house by department managers. During the past fiscal year, over 3,508 persons were served in a charitable capacity. CMC contributed $1,099,049.00 in charitable care during the period from July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007.

During that same period of time, employees of CMC participated in various screenings, support groups, health fairs, and classes which directly impact the community’s health and wellness. Several screening clinics for mammograms, colon cancer, prostate, high blood pressure, and scoliosis for example were conducted for a reduced cost to the public as a community benefit as part of Cumberland Medical Center’s commitment to identification of risk factors and pre-screenings. These activities contributed $286,605.00 to the community benefit impact of Cumberland Medical Center for 2006 – 2007.

Cumberland Medical Center participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Crossville Women’s Expo, CCHS Football and Soccer Games in sports’ training capacity, Uplands Health Fair, Senior Health & Inspiration Day, Alzheimer Memory Walk, American Cancer Society Health Initiatives Action Team, Childbirth Education, Wellness Complex education, and preventative lice check up at the 4-H camp for campers as some of its community activities.

As a non-profit regional medical center CMC’s mission is to make available quality healthcare on a regional level to those in need of its service through dedication, professionalism, and financial stability.

“Giving back to the community is only one of the ways that Cumberland Medical Center continues to serve our patients and their families; however, as is evident from this community benefits’ report CMC is having a significant impact,” said Jim McMackin, President/CEO, Cumberland Medical Center.
