CMC AUXILIARY MAKES MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO HOSPITAL

The Cumberland Medical Center Auxiliary is comprised of 164 men and women who dedicate their time, efforts, and talents to Cumberland Medical Center and its patients. On July 24th, this group made its largest contribution to the hospital at one time in the amount of $176,739.00 to purchase medical equipment during the 2007/2008 fiscal year.

On hand for the presentation of the check were: Jim McMackin, President/CEO of Cumberland Medical Center; Joe and Ginny Saden, Lifeline Coordinators, CMC Auxiliary; Reva Lanzerotti, Manager, CMC Gift Shop; Mac Andersen, Gift Shop Treasurer; Lou Tuck, CMC Auxiliary President; Jim Welch, CMC Auxiliary Treasurer; and Julie V. Thompson, Director of Volunteer Services at Cumberland Medical Center. Not pictured: Tom Watkins, Council on Volunteers Representative.

The $176,739.00 will be distributed among eight different departments: Emergency, Endoscopy Medical Imaging, the Nursing Units on 3A, 5C, and 5D, Adult Pediatrics Unit, and Maternity Suites.

The Emergency Department will receive $36,382.17 to purchase a Nihon Khoden bedside monitor for the Saint Thomas Chest Pain Center at Cumberland Medical Center which will provide continuous cardiac monitoring with EKG capabilities, three new stretchers for the department, and a warming cabinet for medicines and fluids.

$15,150.00 will be used in the Endoscopy Department to purchase an ultrasound system to help doctors install pic lines which are centralized IV lines for the delivery of medications.

The Medical Imaging Department will receive $60,000.00 for MRI compatible monitoring equipment which will enable ICU patients to have MRIs done and still be monitored in the ICU. This will enhance patient care for our critical patients.

Warming cabinets are an item that each patient floor needs. The nursing units on 3A, 5C, and 5D will all receive warming cabinets which can warm blankets, medications, or fluids dependent upon the patients’ and staff’s needs. The total cost will be $8,191.50.

The Adult/Pediatrics Unit will receive $5,832.00 for two Dinamapp vital signs monitors which will monitor the respiratory status of the pediatric patients on the floor.

$51,181.60 will be utilized in the Maternity Suites area for two additional Maternal/Fetal monitors, an addition to the perinatal monitoring system, and two additional vital signs monitors. This will provide monitoring equipment for two more suites within the unit.

“On behalf of the hospital I cannot begin to thank the Auxiliary for their contribution. These equipment purchases will benefit our patients and our staff. Our volunteers are such an integral part of the hospital; we are very fortunate that they believe in and are so supportive of Cumberland Medical Center,” said Jim McMackin, President/CEO of Cumberland Medical Center.

“As Director of Volunteer Services, I see each day how hard our volunteers work for our patients, their families, and our staff members. Regardless of the task, each one of them is always willing to do whatever it takes to make CMC a better place. By donating this money to the hospital, they are investing in this community’s healthcare needs. I am very proud to be associated with such a fine group of individuals,” said Julie V. Thompson, DVS at Cumberland Medical Center.
