Cumberland Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department Celebrates Heart Month and National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week

Cumberland Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program recognized February as Heart Month and National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week on February 14, 2007. With the assistance of Saint Thomas Heart Institute and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals all the patients were treated to a special day. A heart healthy breakfast and lunch were served during the education program related to the history of Cumberland Medical Center’s Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. Currently, 58 patients are enrolled in the 12-week program, which consists of monitored, supervised exercise sessions and educational components. Patients enrolled in Phase II Outpatient Cardiac Rehab have had a cardiac event such as a heart attack, bypass surgery, stent placement or valve repair. Cardiac Rehab does require a physician referral and is covered by Medicare and most commercial insurance companies.

Vickie Myers, RN Team Coordinator would like to take this opportunity to thank Saint Thomas representative Mercedes Lawrence and GlaxoSmithKline representative Kristi Satterfield for their efforts and participation in the heart month celebration.
