THA Announces 2006 Award Recipients

The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) honored 27 individuals and organizations during its 68th annual meeting at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and Nashville Convention Center last week.

Jim McMackin, President/CEO, of Cumberland Medical Center received the President’s Award from THA President Craig Becker for his commitment, dedication and leadership to health care and THA. The award, given at the discretion of the THA president, is presented to individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the association.

“Jim is always willing to work on state and federal advocacy issues on behalf of hospitals and THA, whether it is making personal calls and visits to legislators, meeting with the governor, or traveling to Washington to talk to federal officials and members of Tennessee’s congressional delegation. He is known for his integrity, honesty and calm demeanor when collaborating with other organizations to resolve problems and reach a consensus,” said Craig Becker, President of THA.

McMackin served as chairman of the THA board of directors in 1997-1998, and has served as chairman of the THA Small or Rural Hospital Constituency Section and chairman of the northeast hospital district. His persistence and support of THA also was evident when he served as chairman of the fundraising committee of Friends of THA, the association’s political action committee (PAC), for three years and raised almost $245,000.

In addition, McMackin has served as chairman of the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) section for small and rural hospitals governing council, and is a member of the Tennessee Health Care Association, Tennessee Pharmacist Association and American Health Care Association. He also has served on the Tennessee Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.

Jim McMackin, President/CEO, has been with Cumberland Medical Center since January 1, 2001. He is a member of the American Hospital Association; a member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Hospital Association; a member of the Cumberland Medical Center Board of Directors; and he is a member of the Fairfield Glade Rotary Club.

He received the Meritorious Service Award from the Tennessee Hospital Association in 1990 and the Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Hospital Association in 2000. Jim McMackin is a member of Gideon’s International and enjoys golf. He and his wife, Frances, have two adult children and two grandsons.
