CUMBERLAND MEDICAL CENTER ADMITS FIRST PATIENT TO PRIVATE ROOM

Wednesday, May 24th, was a momentous day for the staff at Cumberland Medical Center. After months of planning, building, and anticipation, the first patient was moved to a private patient room in its new five-story tower which was dedicated on Sunday, May 21st at a special Open House and Dedication Ceremony open to the public.

Jasper Barnes, of Crossville, was the guest of honor and was the first patient to move from the semi-private rooms of the existing fourth floor of CMC to the new 5th floor private rooms in the tower. Accompanied by CMC staff and family members, Mr. Barnes quickly settled into his new room with a large window view, private bath, and all amenities. Other patients from the 4th floor followed Mr. Barnes in a well-orchestrated plan of patient transition.

On Thursday, May 25th, and Friday, May 26th, the Telemetry unit and the Medical/Surgical unit moved patients and staff into their new locations on the remainder of the 5th floor and the 4th floor of the new tower.

On Tuesday, May 30th, the Admissions and Outpatient Registration Area opened on the 1st floor of the new tower. All patients who are registering for Inpatient, Outpatient, and Same Day Surgery procedures will enter the new Admitting area with its drive-through canopy area. Only those patients who need Outpatient Medical Imaging procedures will enter the former admitting area in the existing building (first floor) in order to reduce inconveniences and to reduce travel for those medical imaging patients. Also, patients requiring outpatient Medical Imaging procedures and outpatient labs should enter the former admitting area. There will be admitting personnel at both locations for the patients’ convenience.

Renovations have already begun on the patient rooms in the existing hospital, with those scheduled to be completed in November.
