Cumberland County Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Alumni, Inc. Eighth Annual Golf Tournament A Success

The eighth Annual Golf Tournament held May 9, 2006 at Deer Creek Golf Course proved to be a chilly day but a successful one. One hundred twenty six players braved the cool temperatures for an early May Day. The winners of this year’s event shooting 15 under par were Edd Barnwell, Ernest Barnwell, Brian Wyatt, and Carl Sutton. Decided by scorecard playoff several teams tied for 2nd place. With 14 under par, the winners were Bobby Craft, Jack Slaughter, Bill Dailey, and Buddy Smith. The third place team was Cody Stone, Shannon Palenkas, Kevin Wolcott, and Rocky Gora. In the contest for closest to the line for the men, it went to Edd Barnwell and Hal Church in a tie.

Closest to the pin honors for the men went to Ernie Brown. In addition, every player walked away with special goody bags provided by Saint Thomas Heart Institute and Tennessee Heart Cardiology. All received door prizes. In addition, the Webb Brothers provided a great barbeque luncheon.

The Cumberland County Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Alumni, Inc would like to thank all the sponsors, contributors and the players for making this event successful.

We would like to recognize Dave Kirk Chevrolet-Olds-Cadillac for his continued financial support of this event. Year after year, Mr. Kirk has contributed a significant financial boost to our fundraiser. Without continued support from our local businesses, it would be very difficult to continue our scholarship fund. In addition, we would like to thank our corporate sponsors for their support: Mitchell Drug, Saint Thomas Heart Institute, Flynn Sign Co., and Tennessee Heart Cardiology. We are fortunate that so many individuals feel that Cardiac Rehabilitation services are necessary to improve the quality of life and reduce long-term disability after a cardiac event.

Over $ 19,000.00 dollars was donated during this fundraiser tournament. All proceeds will go to our scholarship fund which provides financial assistance to individuals who may be underinsured or have no insurance at all to receive rehab services after suffering from a cardiac or pulmonary event. The Alumni feel very strongly that rehabilitation is an important part of recovery and quality of life, reducing long-term disability. Our mission includes assisting and encouraging individuals to continue their life style changes through membership to the CMC Wellness Complex. In effort to maintain heart healthy habits after rehab, the Alumni also feel community education is important in the prevention of cardiac and pulmonary disease and plan in the near future to provide community education seminars on related topics in conjunction with Cumberland Medical Center.

The Cumberland County Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Alumni, Inc would like to express our deep appreciation for the continued support of some many in the community. We would like to thank our premier, corporate, hole sponsors, and prize contributors. Without you, we could not be such a successful event.
