Cumberland Medical Center is committed
to promoting health and wellness throughout the communities we serve.
Health professionals from the medical center, and its many affiliates,
regularly provide health screenings, workshops and seminars for
businesses, industries, schools, churches and civic groups. Ongoing
classes and support groups are also held on a variety of topics
at various locations.

Enrollment Programming
Fitness Evaluations-
Health/exercise testing for all members upon joining and every 6
months. The evaluation includes an aerobic capacity test, body composition
analysis, flexibility analysis, strength analysis and a health risk
appraisal.
Nutrition Evaluations -
Nutritional consultation for all members upon joining and every
6 months. The evaluation includes one comprehensive consultation
with a registered dietician.
Insurance Reinbursed Programs
Diabetes Self-Management Program
- This program provides an organized multi-disciplinary approach
to diabetes self-management for patients and their families. The
program has obtained recognition status from the American Diabetes
Association.
Medical Nutrition Therapy -
This program is by physician referral only and includes nutrition
therapy for cholesterol, obesity, or any other diagnosis that is
related to nutrition. The registered dietitian works closely with
the patient’s physician to provide continued update and progress
reports.
Personal Services Personal
Training* - Certified Trainers to provide individual
exercise consultations, guidance and exercise programs.
Massage Therapy* -
Ranging from 30 minutes up to 2 hours and using techniques such
as “Healing Touch”, “Reiki”, “Craniosacral
Therapy”, and “Energy Healing”.
Health
Seminars - Topics of
interest include:
“Age related skin problems” presented by Dr. Kendall
Morrison.
“Five Homeopathic Remedies” presented by massage therapist,
Beth Cunningham.
“Aroma Therapy” presented by Beth Cunningham, Massage

Weight Management Programs
Healthy Habits for Life -
A six week guide to food and fitness designed to help adults develop
a healthy eating and activity plan, presented by registered dieticians.
Healthy Habits Support Groups
- On going support for healthy living and eating.
Beyond Overeating* -
An 8 week comprehensive weight management program including 3 scheduled
exercise sessions with a personal trainer utilizing aerobic and
anaerobic exercises. Educational classes are held weekly with topics
to include: Nutritional basics, making low fat choices, tips for
eating out, discussion of stress, emotions and overeating, and a
grocery store tour. Outcomes such as body fat, weight, inches, flexibility
strength and cardiovascular fitness will be measured. Weekly nutritional
instruction from a registered dietician is provided to review participant’s
food diaries.
Aerobic Programing
Stretch - Involves various
stretching techniques and relaxation.
Body Sculpting - Aerobics
tailored to working individual muscle groups using free-weights.
Beginning Pilates -
Series of matwork exercises based on the principals of Joseph Pilates
Advanced Pilates - Advanced
matwork exercises based on the principals of Joseph Pilates
Ballroom Aerobics -
Low impact aerobics using basic ballroom dance moves Rockin’
to the Oldies - Low impact aerobics using chair
exercises
Tai Chi* - A martial
art that is primarily practiced for its health benefits, including
a means for dealing with tension and stress. This Class emphasizes
complete relaxation, characterized by soft, slow, flowing movements.
Yoga* - Concentrates
on posture, breathing exercises, relaxation and concentration as
well as building strength and lengthening muscles.
Step Aerobics - High
intensity, low impact cardiovascular workout utilizing adjustable
platforms
Introduction to Step -
Basic exercises utilizing adjustable platforms for a lower intensity,
low impact cardiovascular workout
Total Body Aerobics -
Aerobics tailored to working each individual muscle group.
Circuit Training -
Total body workout with cardio warm-up, strength training on equipment
and free weights, flexibility training, incorporating super sets
and super slow.
Torso - Toning and
strengthening with balls, bands and weights from shoulders to hips.
Aquatic Classes
Wake-up - A variety
of exercises combined with cardiovascular exercises to get you moving
in the morning.
AquaNuts - General flexibility
exercises.
Functionality -
Beginning and intermediate exercises to maintain/improve range of
motion, strength, flexibility and cardio fitness.
WaterWorks - A variety
of water exercises to develop strength, endurance and flexibility.
Aquasize - Combination
of different exercises using all muscle groups and various equipment.
Cardio - cardiovascular
water exercises to become “Heart Healthy”.
AquaFit - A variety
of exercises for all muscle groups using equipment and incorporating
cardiovascular exercises.
Support Groups Diabetes
Support Group - The ongoing monthly meetings are
free and are available at both Complexes.
Cardiac support group -
The ongoing monthly meetings are free and are available at both
complexes.
Pulmonary - The
ongoing monthly meetings are free and are available at both Complexes.
Specialized Exercise Programs
Phase 3 Cardiac Rehab -
This program offers a cardiac nurse’s guidance to develop
a maintenance phase for graduates of cardiac rehab.
Golf Clinic* - Focuses
on posture, balance, flexibility, stability, core strength, power
and range of motion and to improve the “flex” required
for the golf swing. Flexibility and exercises phases of program
are taught on stability ball and foam roller, utilizing light weights
for a comprehensive workout for the golfer.
Get Active Partnership “GAP”
Program* - A 6 week program that brings members
together to exercise in a structured, group setting in which you
and two of your best friends are guided by a personal trainer twice
a week.
PREP
Program* - This program focuses on offering post
physical medicine patients or anyone recovering from an injury,
surgery or an untreated physical ailment, an opportunity to continue
their path back to physical healing and start their way towards
a full life of functional exercise utilizing land and water based
exercises. Initial evaluation process includes a muscle strength
test (affected area) flexibility test, cardiovascular test, body
composition test and balance test. Evaluation and training led by
a certified post rehabilitative specialist, Starr Stone who is certified
in aquatic therapy and exercises as well as personal training and
also has 9 years experience as a physical therapy assistant.
Arthritis Essentials*
- A specialized exercise and education program designed for members
with arthritis which incorporates the latest exercise and information
for arthritis. Supported by the National Arthritis Foundation, includes
three supervised workouts per week, led by a certified personal
trainer. Benefits include: increase pain threshold, increased movement,
decreased fatigue factor and swelling, increased range of motion
and functionality.
Ballroom Dance* -
An eight week class that provides basic instruction in the fox trot,
waltz, and swing. It teaches attention to posture, form, ballroom
conventions and etiquette, as well as proving a great aerobic workout.
