| Endoscopy
is a specialty area of the hospital that provides multiple services.
We are staffed by experienced Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical
Nurses and Endoscopy Technicians, with a total cumulative of GI
(Gastrointestinal) experience of 57 years. We are proud to say that
75% of our RNs are certified in Gastroenterology. We have eight
(8) physicians who perform GI and Pulmonary Procedures procedures
in the department, all of whom are board certified. GI procedures
include Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Motility &
Ph Study, Stretta, and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography).
Pulmonary Procedure is Bronchoscopy.
In addition to GI, we provide assistance for Cardiac
procedures requiring moderate sedation such as TEE's (Transesophagealechocardiogram).
We have two (3) Cardiologists that perform these procedures.
Gastroscopy allows for
direct visualization of your esophagus (swallowing tube), stomach,
and a portion of your small intestines. In addition to being a diagnostic
tool this procedure allows for bleeding ulcers to be treated, patients
who have had frequent heartburn for years sometimes develop strictures
in their swallowing tube that causes dysphasia (difficulty swallowing
or food to get stuck) we are able to dilate (stretch) this area
to allow for relief. We have the ability to do a biopsy (take a
small piece of tissue) of any abnormal appearing areas.
Colonoscopy allows direct
visualization of your entire large bowel and allows us the capability
of removing polyps (small growths) prior to their development into
colon cancer. Certain conditions (diverticular disease) arise that
can cause bleeding from your colon.
Bronchoscopy allows for
direct visualization of your lungs. We are able to collect specimens
used to diagnose various disorders, to take a biopsy of any abnormal
appearing areas.
Sigmoidoscopy allows
for direct visualization of the left colon and biopsy of any abnormal
appearing areas.
TEE (Transesophagealechocardiogram)
allows the physician to obtain a better view of the valves in your
heart. This procedure is designed to diagnose multiple cardiac disorders.
Motility and Ph Study is a diagnostic
tool used to diagnose functional disorders of the esophagus (swallowing
tube).
ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde
Cholangio Pancreatography) is an Endoscopic technique used in conjunction
with Radiology to visualize the Biliary and Pancreatic system, may
be diagnostic or therapeutic.
