The
Blood Bank Department at Cumberland Medical Center is staffed
by technologists and technicians who are dedicated to providing
the patient and physician with high quality products and services
in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. The staff is on hand
24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round to assist the physician
in matters of transfusion medicine.
Blood
Bank is responsible for crossmatching units of blood, preparing
cryoprecipitate, fresh frozen plasma, and platelets for transfusion,
as well as investigating antibody identification. Over 4,000 units
of blood are crossmatched and over 3,000 units are transfused annually.
Obstetric cases are followed for administration of Rhogam and prevention
of Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn.
Cumberland Medical Center Blood Bank receives all blood and blood
products from the American Red Cross on a regular basis. In times
of need, blood and or blood products are sent by special courier
to arrive within a short period of time.
The Blood Bank staff makes every effort to assist the physician
and the patient in transfusion matters. It is our desire and responsibility
to perform testing in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
