Tennessee is recognized across the country as the "Volunteer State," and Cumberland County is no exception to that Volunteer Spirit. This community is blessed with individuals who give unselfishly of their time and talents to the betterment of others.

Cumberland Medical Center is fortunate to have a corps of people who dedicate themselves to hospital service through volunteerism. CMC volunteers staff the reception areas, operate and maintain the Lifeline Personal Emergency Response System, work with the dietitians, deliver flowers, mail, and magazines, collate charts and materials, and much more. Cumberland Medical Center recognizes the vital service that its volunteers contribute. With that recognition and with the desire to draw upon the group’s life experience and knowledge base, Cumberland Medical Center is constantly seeking new ways to tap into that volunteer spirit.

Having volunteers to serve on hospital committees has been one of those new responsibilities recently instituted at the Medical Center. The Renovations Committee was formed several years ago at CMC and its purpose is to oversee renovation of expansion projects within the hospital. The group looks at color schemes, design elements, and a range of project elements that change with each project.

Cumberland Medical Center wanted to update its outdoor signage and make it easier for patients, families, visitors, and those traveling Main Street to identify the hospital. Volunteers took an immediate interest in the project and were instrumental in the sign’s design, ordering, delivery, and installation.

Cumberland Medical Center is proud of its volunteers. Regardless of the task, they are a group that willingly accepts the challenges handed to them. The new hospital sign is just one of those challenges. The next time you are driving down Main Street, think of the volunteers who make the world a little brighter by being interested in helping others.
