Your Room
Your room assignment at Cumberland Medical Center is based upon your admitting diagnosis and bed availability on the day of admission. CMC's policy is to admit and treat all patients, without regard to age, race, religion, color, sex, national origin, marital status, physical or mental limitations, or source of payment.

Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electrically operated, and are probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Your nurse will show you how to properly operate your bed. Bedrails are for your protection. They may be raised during the day or at night if you are resting, recovering from surgery, or taking certain medications.

Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the nursing station is alerted that you need assistance. A staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance.

Telephones
Telephones are provided in each room, except in the Critical Care Units. Local and toll-free calls may be made at any time from the room by dialing 9 and the number. Long distance calls can be made collect, or charged to your telephone credit card by dialing 9, then 0, and the number. Long distance calls cannot be charged to your room.

Your family and friends can call you in your room by dialing 459-7 and room number, or through the Cumberland Medical Center operator (931) 484-9511 or from inside the room by dialing (0).

Public telephones are located throughout the hospital for the convenience of our visitors. For telephone repairs or problems, please have a staff member notify Management Information Systems (MIS).

Cell Phones
Cellular phones can interfere with certain types of medical equipment.
For our patient’s safety, the hospital requests all cellular phones be placed in the “OFF” position in restricted areas.

Television
Cumberland Medical Center provides local cable television programming. You will be able to watch most of the channels you may already be familiar with at home. The following channels are available in patient areas:

If you experience any difficulty with your television, please inform the nursing staff so they can notify the appropriate personnel.

Patient Accounts
Patient account representatives can answer questions about your hospital bill and help you interpret financial policies and billing procedures. Patient Accounts can be reached by calling (931) 459-7281, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
